A private collector paid \u00a3550,000 for the 1927 4.5-litre Bentley which Leslie’s caddish car dealer sells naive Stanley Baxter in the classic 1963 Ken Annakin directed comedy. Leslie, who had been offered the car by the film’s producers after filming wrapped, was delighted to pose with the car, lovingly restored and looking better than ever: “God, I SHOULD have bought it, shouldn’t I?” he said with a twinkle in his eye.
